Celebration and Concern
November 11th, 2008

Solomon, the wisest king in history, had a problem: “one baby and two mothers.” He called for a sword and the real mother begged to keep the baby alive. The other woman argued to cut the baby in half and give each mother a piece. The Presidential election of 2008 has been just such a dilemma for the body of Christ. Honest, well-meaning Christians have differed on political direction for America. Where are we and where do we go from here?

CELEBRATION!

Some great things that are cause for celebration have occurred in the last few days since last Tuesday

Mama
November 11th, 2008

The last few days have been incredible. On Tuesday, my mother went to heaven at the ripe old age of 83. She had been battling pneumonia for nine days in the hospital and her tired body finally gave up the fight. The beautiful testimony is that Melanie happened to be present speaking to her about all the believers we know in heaven and she suddenly decided to go herself!

Hundreds of Bethany faithful attended Mama’s funeral at the North Campus. You can view it on our website and it will really bless you. Daddy was the best…in rare form. He bared his soul about Jesus and his love for his wife of 63 years and nine months.

God gave me a message from 1 Timothy 5 about a widow who was to be put “on the list.” She was to be the “wife of one husband, had brought up children, cared for the needy,” etc. That was Mama. Her endless deeds of kindness for the discouraged and defeated are unparalleled. Mother was generous, faithful and committed like the Ruth of the Bible. Daddy said he had never heard her complain in 63 years. Their ministry in small Baptist churches, large urban churches, and finally a living room congregation of twelve that has grown into Bethany is so inspiring. Please send me a comment if you have a personal observation about Mama from your life.

“It’s harvest time.”

Bro. Larry
