4 dimensions of God’s power to win every spiritual battle

There are four main words for “power” in the New Testament.  They each refer to something you should know about God’s power operating inside of you.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Eph. 6:10).  This powerful verse gives us great instruction into the spiritual power God has given us to conquer the enemy.

You are not weak.  You are not frail.  You are not defeated.  You are a mighty, strong, unyielding force against all the forces of darkness.

Read carefully these four “power” words to help you in the battles you are walking through right now:

1. “Exousia”--Delegated Power.

A Roman general had to have the “authority” to lead an army into war.  The Senate gave him a certificate of “imperium” declaring war and designating him as the leader.

Jesus has given us “authority.”  

You must FIRST know that you carry God’s authority.   Satan knows that you are empowered by heaven itself, deputized by Christ to remove his demons from those they are tormenting.

“Exousia” is your “badge.”  A policeman can just lift his hand and stop 500 cars and you have authority to stop the enemy!

2. “Dunamis”--The Firepower.

When a general started a war, he had to know how many troops, ships, and weapons he had at his disposal.  This was his “firepower.”  It is a word about potential.

For the policeman, it is hisgun.  He carries several weapons with enough firepower to take down a criminal.  

The Holy Spirit within us has multiple weapons waiting to be unleashed.  Jesus gave us His Name.  He gave us His Word.  He gave us His blood. 

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power (“dunamis”) to destroy strongholds” (2 Cor. 10: 4).

3. “Ischus”--Brute Power.

This Greek word refers to the heaviest, strongest soldiers who were at the front of the battle formation.  They were the “big brutes.” Small, frail soldiers were placed in the back.  

It reminds me of the 300 pound offensive linemen in football. They slam into the defense and their sheer MASS moves the enemy out of the way!

We have supernatural “brute force” within us.  We have Christ’s resurrection power residing in us. We have God’s holy angels and “there are more with us than with our enemies.”  Finally, we have the entire body of Christ standing with us against our enemies.  

We are a force to be reckoned with!

4. “Kratos”--Standing Power.

The last word for power describes the ability to “stand” when an enemy cavalry or legion of soldiers was running toward you in full battle attack.

“Kratos” means to “dig in, brace for impact, plant your shield, lock your arms with the other soldiers and stiffen yourself to not collapse under intense attack.”

No wonder Paul said, “Having done all to stand, stand therefore” (Eph. 6: 13-14)

You cannot yield, give up, or give in.

If you stand, you will live.  If you run, you will die.

This is “kratos power.”

Whatever battle you are in today, “be strong in the Lord.”  He has given you authority, firepower, brute force, and strength to stand until the enemy gets the message!
