Does the economy have you frightened? “Under His wings” is a better way

You may be one of the millions anxiously watching the banking, inflation, and borrowing crisis. How should we respond as believers to such dire news?

I always think of the three million people in the wilderness. They wandered without banks, malls, restaurants, and water for forty years.

God provided.

Where was the source of all this miracle supply? “Under His wings.”

Psalm 91 is the most remarkable chapter to overcome a fear of anything.

Use these five things to clear away your apprehension:

1. God’s “wings” are His protection.

He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will seek refuge” (Ps. 91: 4)

Many birds cover their young with their wings.

In a storm, the baby chicks in the chicken yard run for the safety of their mother’s wings.

Stay under there. Don’t run alone or poke your head out from under those wings.

Stay covered. Take a deep breath. God is your refuge and your fortress.

2. God’s angels are assisting you.

“He will command His angels regarding you to guard you in all your ways…” (v. 11).

Angels are vast, unseen forces that God gives charge over the affairs of our lives.

Ask the Lord to send His angels to bring the necessary provision.

The “earth is the Lord’s,” and they can bring it to you as the ravens brought food to Elijah in the wilderness.

3. Take your position over Satan and all his fear.

“You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot” (v. 13).

Satan doles out pressure, worry, and anxiety by the truckload. Put your foot on his head. Tread on him!

Tell the enemy he has no power or place in your financial life. Rejoice, in faith, that your supply source will remain through any hardship.

4.  Keep loving God and holding fast to Him.

“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;

I will protect him because he knows my name.” (v. 14)

In times of financial crisis, we tend to pull away from God. We become anxious and frantic.

Don’t run FROM God. Run TO God. “Hold fast to him in love” (this is the word for a husband pursuing a wife). Draw closer to God than ever before in these times.

5. Call on the Lord with a specific prayer for specific needs.

“When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.” (v. 15)

Don’t over-generalize prayer. Make it specific. Whatever your need is, ask God for it, then begin to thank Him that He will answer you.

He delights in you. He will “rescue you.” He will “honor you.” You are not abandoned. He will be “with you in trouble.”

Remain under His wings.

He will cover, love, and protect you in these difficult times.
