God has Five Love Languages
The book Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman has been an international best-seller for years.
Someone recently pointed out to me that if “God is love,” it is probable that He shows us His love in the same five ways.
Check out what we could call the “Five Love Languages” of God:
1.Receiving gifts
Many of us love to receive a gift. It means that the person who loves us has thought about us and invested in something valuable to bless us.
God is the ultimate “Gift giver.”
He gave us the world to live in. He gave us life.
He gave us Jesus, our Redeemer who rescued us from sin and death.
He gave us the Holy Spirit who “sheds abroad God’s love into our hearts.”
He never stops giving.
2. Physical Touch
God loves to touch us.
Many Christians don’t realize that God wants you to “feel” Him. They make fun of that. They refuse to be “emotional” about God.
When He touches me, I immediately begin to weep. For some, it is “fulness of joy.”
He gave you your senses, and feeling is a huge part of that.
Don’t be afraid of the touch of God. When you feel His overwhelming touch in prayer or being prayed for or even being healed, welcome it with joy.
God is just loving you.
3. Words of Affirmation
For many of us, we love to hear a compliment when we do something well.
God will say to each one of us individually when we enter heaven, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
He said to Jesus in the Jordan river, “In whom I am well pleased.”
As a father, I learned the power of affirmation for my children.
Let God affirm you. Let Him speak to you out of Scripture or in your heart by the Holy Spirit.
He loves you and He is really proud of you.
4. Quality time
Some people feel loved when you stop what you are doing and choose to spend large amounts of time together with them.
God wants to spend quality time with you.
It’s called prayer and worship. When I pray during the day, I like to see myself entering His glory and holding a conversation with Him.
Moses spoke to God “as a man speaks to His friend.”
Don’t get religious with God and put a timer on the conversation. Get lost in speaking to Him, thanking Him, praising Him, and sitting before Him.
It’s God’s “quality time” where He can show you His love.
5. Acts of Service
Jesus shocked HIs disciples when He removed their shoes, one by one, and washed their feet.
He “showed them the full extent of His love.”
God loves to serve.
He enjoys meeting needs. Christ humbled himself and took on the “form of a servant.”
Let God serve you. Let Him bless you. Don’t resist His goodness toward you.
We also can show God our love for Him by serving others: the poor, our family, our congregation.
Will you let God love you in all five ways?
