Here are four sure-fire reasons to know that God loves you.
“Keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 21).
That simple little phrase has changed my life.
My most enormous task is believing God loves me regardless of my performance.
You can never perform perfectly enough to “deserve” God’s love.
He loves you. That’s the bottom line.
When you fail, when you disappoint, He still loves you. He is a God who forgives and restores.
Here are four things to remind yourself of when you are no longer sure that He loves you:
He loved you before you loved Him.
“We love because He first loved us” (1 Jn. 4: 19).
That simple little phrase reminds me that God has always loved me. He didn’t wait for me to love Him. He has loved me for all of eternity.
That’s why I don’t have to “earn” His love. He gave it freely to me long before I reciprocated!
Relax in God’s love.
Become convinced that God has always loved you.
In your deepest trouble and storm, let your foot rest on the bedrock of this truth: “God has always loved me and will always love me.”
2. His love is poured out upon you by the Holy Spirit.
“God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom. 5:5)
When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live and takes up residence in our hearts.
He never leaves you.
One of the Holy Spirit’s primary functions is to convince you in every situation (no matter how bad) that God loves you.
Call upon Him in trouble. Pray “in the Spirit.” Thank the Holy Spirit that He is God’s representative living inside you.
This makes your walk with God unchangeable. He will never leave you.
3. His love is infinitely patient with you.
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, SLOW TO ANGER and abounding in steadfast love” (Ps. 103: 8)
God’s patience lasted for 40 years with the children of Israel in the desert. His patience has lasted for 2000 years after Christ died for the sins of all mankind.
He’s NOT going to give up on you.
His loving patience is infinite. Rest in the fact that if you mess up and then humble yourself in repentance, He WILL forgive you.
When people give up on you, God’s love rises like the sun every day of your life.
4. His love is demonstrated in Christ.
“But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).
God’s love for you put Christ on the cross long before you were even alive. He forgave your sins before you could ever possibly “earn it.”
Rest in His love as you think of Christ on the cross.
Say it now, out loud: “God loves me.” Say it every day. Say it in every trial and storm, after every failure or disappointment with yourself.
“He loves you.”
