How To Feel Perfectly Relaxed When You Release Control
I had an interesting experience recently: taking my hands off the steering wheel while driving a Tesla. It freaked me out so much I had to hold my hands in a “circle” around the wheel. After a few fretful minutes, I relaxed and put my hands down into my lap. I allowed the car to turn, stop, and go around curves…by itself.
The application to my life was immediate! What if I allow the invisible hand of God to be totally in charge while I release control?
Try these “auto-pilot” spiritual techniques:
Remember that either God has it or you have it!
Only one person can drive a car at a time.
When the Bible says, “Casting your cares on Him” (1 Pet. 5:7), it is really God saying, “If you have it, I don’t have it.”
“Cast” is a term for “throwing” (think “casting” rod). You have to take your problem and “throw” it to God. Once you “throw” it to the Lord, don’t play “pitch and catch!”
You cannot “commit” and “pull back” at the same time.
In golf or baseball, they say, “Commit to the shot.” That means to never “stop in the middle.” You cannot be tentative in a swing, you have to release the swing.
SWING FREE. The Bible says it this way: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” (Ps. 37: 5).
If you can trust Him with your eternal destiny, you can certainly trust Him with small needs in this life.
Pass up every golden opportunity to worry!
Worry is a sin just like lying. It is a statement that God is not able to handle your situation. “Can God spread a table in the wilderness?” (Ps. 78:19) was the question that got Israel in so much trouble with God.
“GOD CAN.” He is able. The scary thing is that we do not know when “GOD WILL!” If you are tempted to worry, stop right there and remind the Lord that what you have given over to Him is now HIS department.
The “prayer of committal” pleases God.
Doesn’t it bother you when you assure someone you will take care of something and then see them taking care of it on their own?
God has promised to “supply all our needs” (Phil. 4: 19). God has promised to “never leave us or forsake us” (Heb. 13:5). God has promised that “whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).
Right here, right now, commit your problem, your circumstances to the Lord. Leave it there (don’t go back and get it!). Start thanking Him in advance because your heavenly Father cares more for you than the little birds that He regularly feeds.
Take your hands off the “wheel” of your life and put them in your lap. He can drive better than you.
