This Father’s Day, the desire of God’s heart is to carry you.

This Father’s Day, the desire of God’s heart is to carry you.

The image of a father with his child on his shoulders or riding “piggyback” is one we hold dear.

God wants us to enjoy that with Him.

“....you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.”  (Deut. 1: 31)

No shoulders are as broad or footing as firm as the Father God’s.

If you face a difficult situation, get on His shoulders and let Him carry you.

God “carrying” me means several things to me:

 1. He will catch me while I learn.

“Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, CATCHING them…” (Deut. 32:11).

The eaglet’s mother makes the nest uncomfortable until the eaglet falls out of the nest.  Then, she flies under him and catches him.

God will catch you.

You WILL make mistakes as you learn God’s ways. His grace is big enough to cover your failures and mistakes until you flap your wings and fly one day!

Peter tried to walk on water but grew afraid and sank. Jesus “caught” him and helped him understand why he failed.

2.  There is no safer place than between God’s shoulders.

The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety.  The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders…” (Deut. 33:12)

If a parking lot was hot and I was barefooted, or there were many stickers in the yard, my father would carry me “piggyback” on his shoulders.

It felt so good to be high above the danger and discomfort.

God loves for us to “dwell between His shoulders.

He fights our battles.  He takes our pain.  He lifts us far above the prince of darkness.  Nothing can touch you as you ride far above the world and behind his back!

3.  Faith is letting God carry you.

The Hebrew word for faith (A-men) is used for a baby in a mother's arms.  (That’s where we get our word, Amen!).

There is nothing more reassuring than a mother’s arms.  Children love a mother’s arms in a thunderstorm or anything stressful.

Quit “trying to have faith.”  Get up in the Father’s arms, lay back, and rest.  Commit the whole issue to Him.  Let Him “carry you.”

 4. God uses other people to help carry me.

There are times when we feel very distressed. God uses our friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ to carry us through those moments.

They call you.  They check on you.  They minister to you.

I’ve been through a battle this last year, and I thank God for the many friends who have “carried” me to God and “carried” me for God!

Maybe, this Father’s Day week, you need carrying.  Crawl up in His arms…and let God carry you safely to the other side of victory!
