Divine rest is so much better than a life of stress
Divine rest is so much better than a life of stress
“...for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us, therefore, strive to enter that rest…(Heb. 4: 10-11).
There is a secret in Divine rest.
Jesus said, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Mt. 11: 30).
You may be all uptight about your life, your family, and your business when you could be living in Divine REST.
Someone said, “When I strive, God rests. When I rest, God works!”
Here is how to stay in the rest of God:
1. Be sure you are doing what God told you to do.
Adam was not lazy and inactive. He had an assignment in the Garden of Eden. He walked with God every afternoon in the “cool of the day.” There was no striving.
Our problem is that we start doing things that are not our assignments! I quickly learned that I was called to pastor and that when I did that, I stayed in Divine rest.
You leave Divine rest when you step over into pleasing (and impressing) people instead of fulfilling your God-given assignment.
Take a step back and let God walk WITH YOU as you do what He has told you to do.
2. Follow the “cloud” of the Holy Spirit’s direction.
God made it easy for the millions of people in the wilderness to walk in Divine rest: “Follow the cloud.”
When it moved, they moved. When it rested, they rested.
You can’t set your own pace. God knows you will over-drive yourself to an early grave.
Follow the movement of the Holy Spirit. Don’t let a man push you into actions and acquisitions you have no business pursuing.
Everything we acquire by striving will ultimately hurt you, your family, and your health.
Just wait for the cloud to move.
3. Let God fight your battles.
You often read this phrase in the Bible: “The battle is the Lord’s.”
The children of Israel were panicked at the Red Sea when they saw Pharaoh’s armies coming across the desert to drag them back to Egypt.
“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (Ex. 14: 14). By the following day, Pharaoh’s mighty army was dead on the Red Sea shore.
Let God fight your battles. You “be silent” and stay in Divine rest.
4. Remember that Divine rest is called “trust.”
A baby trusts the arms of its mother.
Where you trust, you will rest.
Satan tries to tempt you to trust in riches, in connections, in your strength. You are stepping out of Divine rest.
Trust in God. Lean upon Him. Rest in His “everlasting arms.
Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and relax in God’s “commitment to your care.”
It’s going to be alright. He cares for you.
Our only job is to “strive to enter that rest.”
Divine rest is SO MUCH BETTER than a life of stress.
