Here are four big reasons God gave you a tongue

Have you ever thought about why God gave us a tongue?

No other creature can articulate speech like humans.  Our tongue is unique.

When Adam was formed, God brought the rest of the creatures before him so he could “name” them…with his tongue.

Proverbs says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Prov. 18: 21).  Your tongue is so powerful it can destroy or change your life for the better.

Do you need a miracle?  Are you living in a chaotic, hostile, dismal world?  Like a car's steering wheel, your tongue guides you toward both.

Here are some thoughts that will help you to use your tongue to change your life:

1.Words carry a blessing or curse.

James said, “From the same mouth come blessing and cursing” (James. 3: 10).  The words you speak either bless you and those around you or poison your environment and relationships.

Train your tongue to bless.  Speak words of life over your family, children, neighbors, and co-workers.  Now, you are using your tongue's power to shift your life's atmosphere.

2.  Your tongue can move a mountain.

Jesus told us to “speak to the mountain,” and it would be removed and cast into the sea.

Imagine the power in the tongue!  What a gift God has given us to change our destiny.  Our tongue can remove any and every obstacle.

Turn your tongue loose on your mountain.  Jesus spoke to storms, demons, and even trees.  Release the power of words to change every circumstance in your life.

3.  Use your tongue to connect to God.

A third reason God gave us our tongue was to speak to Him.  He loves to hear your praise.  It thrills the heart of God for our tongues to sing, worship, and bless His Name.

No other creature can worship and talk to God like we can.  Adam “heard God’s voice in the garden” (Gen. 3: 10). They held conversations together.

On the day of Pentecost, He even gave the disciples a “new tongue” to speak the “wonderful works of God!” (Acts 2: 11)

Speak to God.  Use your tongue to tell Him of your love for Him and thank Him for all His blessings.  Your relationship with God will change immediately.  He will pour out His love on you as well.

4. You change your words by changing your heart.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” (Mt. 12:34).

My Dad used to say, “If it’s in the well, it will come up in the bucket!”

Listen to yourself.  Is your mouth speaking negatively about everything?  Are you criticizing everything?  Do you complain about everything?

These are symptoms of a fearful, bitter, and selfish heart.

Ask the Lord to change your heart.   Ask him to make it full of faith, forgiveness, and generosity.

Your tongue will change when your heart is changed.

Now, your world is changing.

You are “blessing” others instead of “cursing” them.

You are moving mountains with your words.

You are speaking words of thanksgiving and praise to God.

THAT is why God gave you a tongue.
