Here are seven reasons I know that God is good

We’ve said it since childhood:  “God is good, God is great, let us thank Him for our food.”

Do we really believe that?  Are we entirely persuaded that God is always good and that the troubles of our lives are not just His “blessings in disguise?”

This is a critical point of faith because it also helps us to believe that Satan is always the source of evil and trouble.

Here are seven rock-solid reasons that demonstrate that God is good!

1. God’s goodness is to undo Satan’s evil.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (Jn. 10:10)

Notice the contrast between Satan (the thief) and the Jesus (the Good Shepherd).  People get confused with this.  God is the Source of goodness; Satan is the source of evil

2. God’s goodness created everything “good.”

We know God is good because He called everything He made in Genesis 1 “good.”  All creation was good until Adam and Eve were corrupted and brought sin and death into the world.

3. God’s goodness is His glory.

God told Moses, “I will make all my GOODNESS pass before you.”  Then He said, “You will stand on the rock while my GLORY passes by…” (Ex. 33: 19, 22).

We know God is good because His very nature shines as goodness and light from His presence.

4. God’s goodness is His pleasure.

Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

We know God is good because He derives great pleasure from being good to us!

5. God’s goodness never changes.

Every GOOD GIFT and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is NO VARIATION or shadow due to change.” (James 1: 17)

This verse tells us that God’s goodness never changes.  Like the sun at “high noon,” He showers His goodness and kindness in endless ways.

6.  God’s goodness is fathering.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him” (Mt. 7:11).

We know God is good because of our parents' example. Our parents would never dream of giving us a “rock” for a piece of bread. Why should we imagine that God would do differently? He loves to provide His kids with the things they need in this life.

7. God’s goodness leads you to repentance.

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4)

We know that God is good because He spends so much time patiently waiting for us to change!

Only a good, longsuffering Father would give us so much kindness and love, even while we reject His goodness.

Stop today and think about these seven things.  Right now, lift your hands and voice and tell Him, “The Lord is GOOD, and His mercy endures forever!”
